BUDDY "Bud" HOPE
FKHS CLASS OF 1975
SUNSHINE:  October 25, 1957
SUNSET:  October 12, 2006

I guess it goes without saying that Bud had a tremendous impact on my life since I was married to him for 29 years.  The most important thing that Bud taught me is to live life to the fullest.  He did everything in life with 100% commitment.  He worked hard at UPS and he played hard as he traveled around the world, hosted entertaining parties, and celebrated every holiday during the year.  He was devoted to his family, and he would do what ever was needed to make sure his family felt his love.  If you were part of his inner circle of friends, you knew it.   He loved to be with family and friends, and he loved having fun with those people.  If I had to choose one word to describe him, it would definitely be FUN.  Without him in my life, it is difficult to have fun, but I know in order to honor his memory, I want to live my life with the same exuberance he had for life.

Wesley Troy "Butch" Kyle (Oct. 3, 1955 - Oct. 6, 1985) - photographed with long time friend, Ron Escobedo
Murray State University, September 1977

I have known Wesley Troy "Butch" Kyle since I was 10 years old. We grew up together with a lot of you guys in Ft. Knox and at North Hardin. Pound for pound he was one of the toughest football players I ever knew. We came to North Hardin our junior year and tried out for the football team along with Abel De Leon, Jr. We were treated like red-headed step children, given OLD Trojan practice jerseys since we were the 93rd, 94th and 95th players signing up that summer. Butch and I made our names on the specialty teams, more importantly the kick off squad. By the end of the season we both started on a good Trojan team. Butch got Coach Hogg's attention when, bored during a scrimmage, he came in from the sideline and blind-sided a guy coming in to level the QB. The coaches were screaming wondering who did that?  We of course, pointed to Butch, expecting him to be put in the dog house. Instead, Coach Hogg was so impressed, he started Kyle right then and there. It was funny as hell, since we had yelled out Butch's name, thinking the coaches would roast him for that. Instead, he gave us the one-finger salute as he took his place in the huddle. He was something else. We ended up going to Murray State University, and he married my sister's good friend Debbie. I think of him often and always smile with good memories. We would sometimes ride with Terry Penix to and from football practice our Junior year at North Hardin, and another great guy from our Fort Knox days. These two guys together were always fun. Great memories even over all this time! There isn't a week that goes by that I don't think of my old friend. His brother Rick owns a company in Clovis, NM where he lives with his wife Valerie, and their son and daughter, Justin and Morgan. Butch is survived by his wife Debbie Geurin Smith, and daughter Megan. He was laid to rest in Spring Hill, TN.

Pam Kyle
(September 18, 1958 - August 21, 1986)

I knew Pamela Jo Kyle since she was 7 years old and Butch's kid sister.  She went to Ft. Knox High School briefly. She graduated from North Hardin High School in 1976.  Unfortunately, cancer took this wonderful young woman when she was only 27.  You could not meet a nicer, prettier, and kinder person than she.  This picture does not give justice to the tall, willowy blonde who was always quick to smile.  While her life was short, she was one of those friends who will always be missed.  Pam was as wiry, and tough as her older brother and was actually taller than him! She was nice and fun-loving to her friends, and a typical older sister to her brother Ricky! I hope some of you who read this had the opportunity to call her friend.  I know I am a better person for having known her in my life. Pam rests in peace near her mother Glenda, in Magnolia, KY.  She is survived by her brother Rick, his wife Valerie, their son Justin and daughter Morgan of Clovis, NM.
